This course was developed by WIEGO (opens in a new tab)in collaboration with the Global Alliance of Waste Pickers(opens in a new tab), the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF)(opens in a new tab), HomeNet International(opens in a new tab), and StreetNet International(opens in a new tab) for membership-based organizations (MBOs) of workers in informal employment.
Throughout the lessons, participants will gain insight into how the media is a space which establishes stereotypes about workers through the lens of gender. We see and capture some of the stereotypes women face and move on to learn about what some of the ways to challenge them are. This course intends to give (women) workers a foundation to use the media as a tool to share messages of what they want to convey to the world.
Let’s begin!
Note: The course is focused on women workers, and we recognize that it lacks suitable information about gender-based stereotypes about men, non-binary and other gender minorities. These are topics that should be addressed in future work.
